Elijah Wadsworth Roberts was born on October 29, 1947 to the late Rev. Leonard J. Roberts, Sr. and Deaconess Virene M. Roberts, in Jacksonville, Florida. He attended the local schools and completed his high school education in 1967. Elijah grew up with seven siblings, three sisters and four brothers.

In 1965 Elijah entered the military and served in the Vietnam War, upon completion of active military service, he met and married Mary Hutchinson of Brooklyn, New York. To this union two daughters were born, Sharon Roberts Knight and Jacqueline Roberts Johnson. Elijah received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior while serving in the military, he was a member of Lewis Memorial AME Church, under the leadership of Rev. Doris Sherman, Pastor.

Elijah departed this life and entered into eternal life on July 27, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leonard J. Roberts, Jr.

Elijah leaves to cherish his memories two daughters, Sharon R. Knight (Ian) of Brooklyn, New York and Jacqueline R. Johnson (Lonnie) of Long Island, New York; two grandchildren, Jared Knight and Jade Knight; three sisters, Jacquelyn Roberts Brown, Pecola Roberts Wiggins, and Idella A. Roberts; four brothers, Howard D. Roberts (Margie), Paul M. Roberts (Shirley), Anthony C. Roberts, and Bertram E. Roberts (Karen); one aunt, Lessie Mason, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Samuel C. Rogers Memorial Chapel, 10:00 AM, Tuesday, August 2, 2016. Viewing will be from 9:00 to 10:00 AM on the day of service.
